Amar works with adults and adolescents from all walks of life who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues and substance use as well as grief and loss. He enjoys art therapy, working with the LGBTQ population and integrating a biopsychosocial-spiritual lens into his practice. Amar has weekend and evening availability for counselling with adults, youth, and couples virtually.

Amar does therapy based on integrated approaches of trauma-informed, person-centred, Jungian theory, Internal Family Systems and Accelerated Resolution Therapy with a special focus on Art Therapy.

Background and Training

Amar holds a Master’s of Counselling Psychology and Art Therapy from Adler University, in Vancouver, BC. He has additional post-graduate training in Heart Centered Practices for working with adolescents, combining Internal Family Systems and Expressive Arts Therapy, as well as Adolescent Psychology and Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy. In addition to working at Head and Heart Counselling, Amar currently works as family counsellor at Hospice Calgary & Children's Grief Centre. He also has academic training in visual and expressive arts.

Before pursuing his goal of becoming a clinical counsellor, Amar completed a veterinary degree, and worked in veterinary medicine.
